சித்தர் பாடல்கள்: Poets of the Powers

ஓடி – Running, உட்கலந்த சோதியை – The Flame that has merged Within, நாட்களும் கழிந்து போய் – Days too went past,  நாடி – In Seeking, மாண்டு போன – that died,  மாந்தர்கள் – men,  வாடி – wilting, எண்ணிறந்த கோடியே – (lit.) In the count where even numbers die, கோடி – 10 million

The poet talks about Man’s perpetual obsession to seek [God, or anything Infinite].  He says that in pursuit of the Flame that is merged within [every] body,  men run all their lives, seek all their lives.  They dry out and wilt in this pursuit.  The number of such men who have died in this pursuit is millions and millions,  saying that even numbers die in trying to count them.

Is the numbers in the stanza merely a poetic device? Obviously no population could be so numerous.   Is this stanza a support for the reincarnation theory?  By that the same ‘Thing’ could have taken numerous lives in pursuit of God and with the entire animal, insect and plant kingdoms, such a huge number could be possible
